Bojana Piškur

Bojana Piškur works as a curator at the Moderna galerija in Ljubljana. Most of her work is related to the Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav context, the Non-Aligned Movement and the question of the"East(s)”, especially about arts and culture. Since 2019, she has curated and co-curated a series of exhibitions entitled Southern Constellations which took place at the Moderna galerija in Ljubljana (2019), Asia Culture Center in Gwangju (2020), Filodrammatica Gallery in Rijeka (2021), Contemporary Art Centre of Montenegro in Podgorica (2022), Qattan Foundation in Ramallah (2022), National Opera and Ballet in Skopje (2022, organised by the Faculty of things that can’t be learned), and The Mosaic Rooms in London (2023). The latest exhibition in the series is Constellations of Multiple Wishes: Along the Eastern Horizon (2024) at the Moderna galerija in Ljubljana.

The presentation will focus on various solidarity projects in the arts and culture that existed within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement from the 1960s to the late 1980s, particularly in the context of Yugoslavia. These solidarity projects were not only in line with the official approach and pragmatic goals of non-aligned governments or liberation movements. Still, they expressed a broader historical and political moment of peoples’ worldwide struggles for decolonisation and liberation. Special focus will be given to the international solidarity demonstrated in the aftermath of the Skopje earthquake of 1963, more specifically to the 1963, 1965 and 1967 editions of the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts, held at the Moderna galerija, which significantly contributed to the donation of graphic works to MoCA Skopje’s solidarity collection.
